Plymouth NHS ICT Shared Service (PICTS) wanted to improve the way information was passed between primary, secondary and community care. Working with staff, it developed the Risk of Admission Patient Alert (RAPA), which passes information services by SMS and email, fed from the InterSystems Ensemble rapid integration platform. RAPA is being assessed for other trusts in the region.

Electronic ward whiteboards - Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust

As part of a 'Paper Lite' project, electronic whiteboards have been developed at Trafford that have become the focal point of wards. The 46" whiteboards present data and information from the electronic patient record, bed management and electronic referral systems, and provide an 'at-a-glance' approach to daily progress, alerts, handover notes, nursing observations and pathway management.

A solution to transfer documents electronically from secondary care to GP practices - NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent, NHS Medway and PCTI

NHS Eastern and Costal Kent and NHS Medway needed to transfer documents electronically from secondary care to GP Practices. EDT Server has now been deployed to NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent's 120 GP practices and NHS Medway's 62 practices. This means that documents can be distributed electronically, producing significant time and cost savings.

The role of an interface engine combined with alerts in achieving improvement of clinical outcomes in clinical practice - Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust

By capturing and manipulating data sent in HL7 messages, the trust has been able to develop systems that alert clinicians to key events. The system includes the transfer of key alerts/flags/notifications – including infection control, cancer staging, VTE assessments, fractures and algorithms in medical calculators - to electronic patient records. The system also supports alerts and messages by SMS, email and bleeps.
