Winner: Image Exchange Portal, Department of Health, NHS Connecting for Health and Burnbank Health Systems

The Image Exchange Portal is a key development for the vital process of sharing medical images electronically. It has been jointly developed and assured to provide a hosted system allowing the transfer of DICOM images and HL7 reports between organisations, supporting clinical networks and emergency and routine transfers via a single connection.

The Interoperability Toolkit, Department of Health Informatics Directorate

The Interoperability Toolkit (ITK) project aims to define a set of national interoperability standards and frameworks and to demonstrate them. The ITK supports interoperability at a number of levels internally to an organisation or across organisational boundaries. The ITK demonstrates a fresh approach to defining a set of national standards to support interoperability at a local organisation and a local health community level were historically there have been bespoke point-point interfaces using different variations of standards.

National Pathology Exchange, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust

The National Pathology Exchange (NPEx) is a nationally available system for electronically passing pathology requests and results between laboratories. Running from an NHS datacentre in Halifax it uses N3 to connect directly to laboratories running iSOFT and CliniSys lab systems and passes request and result data in real time.
