This trust has developed and conducted a historically controlled trial of Patientrack, an application that calculates Early Warning Scores for acutely ill patients and alerts staff when a patient's condition starts to deteriorate. Patientrack has resolved a longstanding patient safety concern about the recording, recognition and response to the acutely deteriorating hospital patient and produced impressive results.
This project implemented the mandatory VTE risk assessment for all inpatients throughout the trust. An IT-based approach was used to improve documentation, provide appropriate clinical advice to doctors and increase prescription rates. The aim is to reduce the incidence of hospital-aquired deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and reduce the deaths and illnesses caused by these conditions.
Scansol Ltd has developed TeleDerm - a unique telemedicine application which offers GPs access to rapid, specialist diagnosis for melanoma. TeleDerm aims to reduce the risk of misdiagnosis by GPs, the majority of whom have no formal dermatology training. Following a successful pilot where GP users of the application increased their diagnostic accuracy for melanoma to 100%, TeleDerm has now been commissioned by the NHS.
